INTERVIEWING TECHNIQUES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Before inviting an interview with anyone, always check to see who (if anyone other than the person you want to interview) may be in charge of scheduling interviews for the TALENT.  The person in charge of scheduling interviews (and generally most anything for Medium to Largely known TALENT) may not actually be the TALENT you want to interview!

Once you have found out who is in charge, you will need to ask very specific questions of the scheduler (yes, you actually need to "interview" the scheduler!).  Interviewing the scheduler in this manner is going to show and prove to the scheduler/manager/mother/etc. how you conduct yourself in an interview.  Different genres of TALENT will dictate different approaches and styles in your technique.

These style differences may indicate that another person other than yourself may be better suited to interview TALENT Mr. METAL HEAD vs. TALENT Jazzy Boy.

Following are locations of interviews that you will likely encounter and try:

ALL of these REQUIRE consideration when planning the logistics of your interview!

Many factors are involved as why you should care.

    1.    The band may be too tired or too hungry or too happy or too sad or too late or too busy checking sound or rehearsing or composing music on-the-fly to be bothered by any interview.

ONLY their management would know the temperature of the TALENT's "water", so to speak.

    2.     YOU MUST ALWAYS INFORM AND SOMETIMES EVEN MUST ASK the venue whether or not they may allow interviews.  If and when a venue allows interviews the VENUE may have varying degrees of concern as to where, what type (see above list) and most especially WHEN you and the TALENT might interview.  It is always a good idea to ask the Venue manager before committing yourself to an agreement of interviews with TALENT.  On the other hand, most Venue Managers would not unreasonably withhold interview requests as most Venue Managers want to have happy TALENT and instinctively understand the importance of local interviews - especially On-Air - to help in promoting the Show, the Venue, as well the TALENT.

REASON? Due to contractual obligations, no promoter or Venue Manager is going to want to worry about where the TALENT is (especially during a sanctioned interview, let alone an impromptu one) at any given time, they simply want to KNOW where the TALENT is at ALL times.

FORMULA:: No late eating, no late sound checks, NO LATE STARTING SHOWS = good times for everyone.

And, Yes, those are really the only rules.  Just those two.

* ANYTHING ON-Air will - by fcc and CARP regulations - always be Archived for playback OFF-Air only for purposes of proving or disproving, generally, cases of profanity.  These archives may at any time be used by Station DJs for Air-Check purposes ONLY, and in those cases may NOT be later aired as part of some "bit" in perpetuity if the archives in question were requested by TALENT to remain non-airable in the original.
