CLC Radio CHIEF ENGINEER

Job Description

Qualifications: Enrolled for six credit hours and maintain a minimum of a 3.0 GPA if a non-graduated CLC student approved by the Director of Student Activities or have graduated with a minimum 3.0 GPA from an accredited university or college OR, if not enrolled but employed by CLC, be on contract either univocally as staff member (non-exempt preferred) with strength in audio production and/or at least ham radio experienced (licensed) or with a recognized local engineering firm strong in broadcast engineering.

 

The CHIEF ENGINEER is responsible for all on-air, technical, and production activities and production quality at CLC RADIO as well as the direct supervision of any student engineers or asst chief engineers.

 

Specific duties and qualifications include, but are not limited to, the following: (point 1 omitted as redundant to the above qualification)

2.          The CHIEF ENGINEER is indirectly responsible for technical production activities of the Production Director, the Public Service Director, the Music Director and the Disc Jockeys, but directly responsible when an STUDENT ENGINEER is not hired, and reports directly to the Student Manager and General Manager of discrepancies in personnel with equipment use.

3.           The CHIEF ENGINEER is a non-voting member of CLC RADIO Managing Board (if formed)* and will present a summary of engineering activities at monthly Board meetings.

4.           The CHIEF ENGINEER should evaluate the technical proficiency of each assistant engineer, student engineer-in-charge, and disc jockey once a month (one forth of the air staff each week), providing (written if needed) evaluations for each.  The CHIEF ENGINEER should schedule an official meeting with all disc jockeys and staff at least once per semester, along with the CLC RADIO manager, to provide face-to-face evaluations of equipment concerns, operational concerns, "wish lists", and ergonomic considerations that may be due.

5.    The chief engineer shall assume all duties and responsibilities of the student engineer when one is not assigned, and will in that specific case only, be made eligible for stipend while performing those duties pro-rated for the length of time allowed per semester.

6.           The CHIEF ENGINEER is expected to schedule and keep ten office hours per week SPREAD OVER 4 DAYS CONSISTENTLY FROM WEEK TO WEEK or as may otherwise be stipulated in a CLC employment contract when and if in force.

 

* MANAGING BOARD WILL ONLY BE CREATED BY STUDENTS THROUGH CONSENT OF MUSIC STATION ADVISOR(S) AND DIRECTOR OF STUDENT ACTIVITIES.
